In Honor of our friend Arlene Clark join our Hug a Senior Program. Details below.
I'm thrilled to announce that Desiree Shumaker has joined our team as a full-time Grant Writer at Kindred Connection Foundation, INC. Welcome Desiree!
Here's a little about myself and how I came to work with the foundation:
I was born in Phoenix, AZ on September 1, 1980. I graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV in 1998. In 2009, I enrolled at the University of Phoenix and obtained my AAS in 2011. In 2018, I moved to Lakeview, OR to assist my father with his medical issues. In 2023, we received the devastating news that my father had terminal cancer. My husband and I took care of him at home because we were not aware of the community support available. Unfortunately, the last three months were emotionally and financially draining.
This year, a former colleague approached me about an opening at the foundation. It became clear to me that this was where I was meant to be in order to make a meaningful impact for those going through the same issues. I realized that I could ease other people's worries where I once felt overwhelmed.
I feel good about this foundation and what I am striving to achieve within the community. I want veterans, seniors, and their families to know that they are not alone; there is help available for all of us. I have several programs in the works to combat isolation and loneliness in our community.
If you would like to learn more about what we do and get involved in our projects, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Regards,
Desiree Shumaker
